Doctrines And Values

 STATEMENT OF DOCTRINE

1. WE BELIEVE in one God, the Creator and Lord of the universe, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; Matthew 3:16-17; Ephesians 4:6).

2. WE BELIEVE in God the Father, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of all creation, that He hears and answers prayers, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ (2 Samuel 22; Matthew 5:48; John 3:16).

3. WE BELIEVE that God the Son, Jesus Christ, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary death, rose physically from the dead and ascended to heaven where He is the only Mediator between God and man, and that all who believe and receive Him as Savior and Lord are justified by His shed blood (Matthew 28:1-10; Luke 1:26-35; Romans 6:10; 10:8-10; 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 4:15).

4. WE BELIEVE in the work of the Holy Spirit for spiritual birth, for the empowerment of each believer to walk in the fruit and gifts of the Spirit and for the Church’s constant renewal in truth, wisdom, faith, holiness, love, power and witness (Romans 8:9; Acts 1:8. John 16:13).

5. WE BELIEVE the 66 books of the Bible are God’s authoritative and inspired Word. The whole of the Bible is true and accurate, and is our supreme authority, both individually and corporately, in all matters of faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

6. WE BELIEVE that all people are born with a sinful nature and can only enter the Kingdom of God by grace alone through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ (John 14:6; Romans 3:23; 10:9-10; Acts 2:37-38).

7. WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ will personally and visibly return in glory to raise the dead and bring salvation and judgment to completion. God will establish a new heaven and new earth (Matthew 26:64; Luke 21:27; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, 5:1-11; 2 Peter 3:10-13; Revelation 21:1-8).

STATEMENT OF VALUES

1. UNITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST: We encourage (God expects) a spirit of cooperation and harmony in the local body as well as the whole Body of Christ. We seek to find unity in essentials and liberty where the Bible is silent or supports more than one interpretation, doing all in love, in accordance with God’s Word. (Psalms 133; John 17:20-23; Romans 14:1; Romans 15:5-6; I Corinthians 10:23-24; I Corinthians 12:22-25; Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 4:2-6; Colossians 3:12-14).

2. WORSHIP: God is the Subject of our worship; to Him we offer praise, adoration, service and our lives. Worship develops the character of the individual Christian and the character of the corporate body. We practice different expressions of worship, seeing in Scripture great variety in the forms used to express honor to Him. (I Chronicles 16:23-27; Psalms 95:1-6; Psalms 96:4; Psalms 150; Micah 6:8; II Corinthians 3:18; Romans 12:1).

3. PRAYER: Prayer is communion with God. We call God’s people to be devoted to prayer and to know the Father’s heart for His Church, His world, and for every individual. (Philippians 4:6; Colossians 4:2; I Thessalonians 5:16-18; I Timothy 2:1-2).

4. SANCTITY OF LIFE: God is creator and sustainer of life. We affirm His creative nature by advocating respect for all human life from the moment of conception until natural death. (Genesis 2:7; Jeremiah 1:5; Psalms 139:13-16; John 3:16; Hebrews 9:27).

5. CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE: Marriage was instituted by God as a permanent and exclusive union of one man and one woman for the purpose of providing mutual satisfaction and companionship; to propagate the race; and to provide a stable and nurturing environment for the family. Christ’s union with His church serves as a model for family interrelationships. (Genesis 1:27, 28; Genesis 2:18-24; Matthew 19:6; I Corinthians 7:2; Ephesians 5:21-33; Hebrews 13:4).

6. CHRISTIAN FAMILY: In accordance with God’s command, we recognize the family unit, and therefore encourage and seek to strengthen the emotional and spiritual health of families. We also seek to be a family in the Body of Christ, walking as brothers and sisters in the faith. (Psalms 128; Proverbs 22:6; Acts 2:46-47; Romans 15:5-7; Ephesians 4:1-16; Ephesians 5:22-6:4).

7. BAPTISM: We believe in baptism and practice immersion of those who have confessed faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (Mark 1:7-11; Act 2:38-39; Romans 6:3-8; Galatians 26-28).

8. THE LORD’S SUPPER: We regularly celebrate the Lord’s Supper which is open to all who have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (Matthew 26:26-28; John 6:48; I Corinthians 11:23-28).

9. MORAL INTEGRITY: We call God’s people to walk in obedience to the Bible in moral and ethical issues. (Matthew 7:12; I Corinthians 6:9-11; Galatians 5:16-23; Ephesians 5:1-12; Colossians 3:1-17).

10. LIFE IN THE SPIRIT: We earnestly desire to walk and be led by the Holy Spirit, so that we may manifest both the fruit and the gifts of the Spirit, as God distributes them, according to His will. These differ according to the grace given to us, and are for the encouragement, comfort, and building up of His church. It is our prayer that in these things we will neither grieve nor quench God’s Spirit, letting love for Jesus and one another be our guide. (Romans 12:6-8; Romans 15:13; I Corinthians 12:1-18; I Corinthians 13 & 14; Galatians 5:16-18; 22-26; Ephesians 4:11-15,30; Colossians 3:14; I Thessalonians 5:19).

11. GROWING IN CHRIST: We believe that we are being formed, conformed, and transformed into the image of Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit and the word of God, that we may be equipped for Godly service. (Romans 8:29; Romans 12:2; Galatians 4:19; Philippians 1:6; II Timothy 3:16-17).

12. EVANGELISM AND MISSIONS: In accordance with Christ’s commission, God’s people are to be involved in the ministry of sharing the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus calls us to local and global accountability for teaching, equipping, and making disciples of all people. (Isaiah 12:4-6; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8).

13. CHRISTIAN HERITAGE: God has called us to pass the faith on to the next generation. We support parents in the process of teaching their children, as well as provide educational, fellowship and worship opportunities for children and youth. (Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Colossians 3:16; I Timothy 2:1-2).
